Before I’d listened to El Perro Del Mar, I assumed they (she, actually, since there’s only one musician and she plays all the instruments) were Spanish simply because the name of the band is. As it turns out, she’s Swedish, not entirely unlike how José González is a Swedish artist. She plays lo-fi, exceedingly mellow pop songs, with a slight touch of retro which is more evident on some songs than others (especially on God Knows (You Gotta Give To Get) and Here Comes That Feeling).
She has the distinction of being the only songwriter (that I know of) who has a lyric that reminds me of Eeyore (”Being sad all day long / what’s the use of talkin’ about it?“). This song is fittingly on the track Sad, and is not nearly as utterly depressing as it sounds. That said, if you are looking for high-energy rock, do not expect El Perro Del Mar to satisfy you whatsoever. If you are instead looking for tunes that would fit right in on a mellow oldies radio station (if such a thing existed!), then start downloadin’ and stop readin’.

MoZella is a solo soul/pop solo artist from Detroit, United States. At 15 she began to booking her own shows at local coffee houses in the Detroit area and one owner was impressed enough to ask if she wanted to perform there on a regular basis.
After graduating high school at 18 she headed for Los Angeles where she worked as a waitress and cake decorator at a bakery by day and wrote songs and performed in coffee houses at night. After several false starts, including a brief apprenticeship with rapper Warren G and a stint in London recording a demo with producer Tim Saul (Portishead), MoZella returned to L. A. and recorded a new demo. It found its way to Maverick’s A&R executives, who signed her at the end of 2003.
MoZella then began work on her debut album I Will (released 2006) with producer/songwriter Jude Cole and toured with Lifehouse, Dave Matthews Band, and Daniel Powter. In addition to this she released a self-titled EP in 2005 and has had her songs featured on television shows and in commercials.
Interesting fact: When Keifer Sutherland featured her song “Amazed” on his iTunes celebrity playlist in 2006 over 6000 singles were sold.

Chrisette Michele Payne (born c. 1982), known professionally as Chrisette Michele, is an American R&B singer on the Def Jam Recordings record label. She has been featured on such popular hiphop albums as Jay-Z’s Kingdom Come and Nas’ Hip Hop Is Dead. She sings in a jazz style reminiscent of past singers such as Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald.
Surrounded by music since she was a small child, twenty-four year old singer, songwriter and composer Chrisette Michele has been blessed with an old soul and this Long Island bred songwriter and vocalist has a deep appreciation for the harmonic foundations that includes gospel and jazz. “I did my first solo when I was four years old,” Chrisette remembers.

El Perro del Mar is a musical project that was founded in December 2003 in Gothenburg, Sweden. The sole member of El Perro del Mar, Sarah Assbring, initially started as an mp3/cdr-artist and released her first songs through Hybris.
El Perro del Mar is, in the words of Ms. Assbring, "the name of the music that I had been dreaming of and planning on making for a long time."
Her style is very reminiscent of 60's French pop. Though not as markedly sensual, the relaxed, care-free music itself and the sombre yet child-like vocals suggest something along the lines of a melancholic Jane Birkin. At the same time, the definitive lo-fi and synthpop production elements effectively contemporize her albums.
From 2004 to late 2005 her records had only been released by the Swedish label, Hybris, but in 2006, Sarah experienced a host of new found success when her self-titled album El Perro del Mar was picked up by UK-based label, Memphis Industries, under which Dungen and The Go! Team also release. Prior to the self-titled album, Sarah had recorded and released Look! It's El Perro del Mar! and the EP You Gotta Give to Get, in Spring 2005 and November 2005 respectively.
In early 2007, El Perro del Mar ended her relationship with Scandinavian label Hybris and began a new relationship with The Concretes label Licking Fingers. She is currently working on a new album.
